LIMBANG: Limbang holds strong potential to be developed into a sustainable and competitive low-carbon city, while also emerging as a new attraction for tourists and external investors.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, stated that Limbang’s development must be carefully and systematically planned, taking into account environmental sustainability in line with current global development trends.
“If Darul Hana can be developed in Kuching City, why can’t Limbang be developed as a low-carbon city? This could serve as a trendsetter for the development of other towns in Sarawak,” he said.
He said this while officiating the Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) 2026 programme for the Limbang Division at the Limbang Sports Complex on Saturday.
Elaborating further, he emphasised the importance of adopting a low-carbon development concept to ensure the well-being of the people through reduced pollution and improved quality of life.
“The lower the carbon emissions and pollution, the more assured our health will be. Therefore, Limbang’s development planning must take this aspect into account,” he added.
Earlier, he noted that he, together with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof and other delegates, participated in a walkabout around Limbang town to observe the surroundings of Kampung Seberang as well as the route leading to the Limbang Bridge, which is expected to be completed between September and October this year.
He added that the initiative would further strengthen economic and familial ties between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam.
At the same time, he proposed that the development of the riverfront in Limbang, currently among the longest in Sarawak, be further enhanced as part of a more comprehensive urban development plan.
He remarked that such efforts would not only beautify the town, but also enhance Limbang’s appeal as a new tourism destination in northern Sarawak.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof and his wife, Datin Amar Ruziah Mohd Tahir, Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Secretary and SKS 2026 Organising Chairman, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Secretaries, Limbang Resident Unus Tambi, heads of departments, community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK), as well as the people of Limbang. -UKASnews
