Kuching–Sri Aman Travel Time To Be Shortened To One Hour 15 Minutes
SRI AMAN: Travel time between Kuching to Sri Aman is expected to be shortened to approximately one hour to one hour 15 minutes in the future, compared to the current duration of about two hours 30 minutes.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg revealed that this target is based on a new 142-kilometre route passing through Sejingkat, Samarahan, and Sebuyau, supported by major infrastructure projects including bridges.
“My answer is simple: from Kuching via Sejingkat—and with the completion of the Sejingkat bridge—straight to Samarahan, to Sebuyau, and on to Sri Aman, the distance is 142 kilometres.
"If we drive at a speed of around 90 kilometers per hour, it means we can arrive in about an hour and 10 to 15 minutes,” he said.
He delivered these remarks during the closing ceremony of the Lingga Constituency Economic Forum 2026 here on Sunday.
The Sarawak Premier added that the reduction in travel time is not merely an estimate but is based on actual route data and the strategic infrastructure currently under development.
This enhanced accessibility is expected to strengthen economic ties between Kuching and Sri Aman, simultaneously stimulating development in the surrounding areas.
Also in attendance were Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Lingga Assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, and Sri Aman Division Resident Mahra Salleh. — UKASnews
