Sungai Sinjan Flood Mitigation Project Slated For Completion By October 2027
KUCHING: The RM41.9 million Sungai Sinjan Flood Mitigation Project is expected to be fully completed by October next year, serving as a long-term solution to flooding issues in Kuching, particularly in the Matang area.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof led a project site inspection here on Monday to monitor the progress of the infrastructure.
This project is part of the broader RM191 million Integrated River Basin Development (PLSB) for Sungai Sarawak, which consists of three main packages designed to strengthen drainage systems and mitigate flood risks in high-risk areas.
The infrastructure includes the construction of dry detention ponds, concrete drainage systems, and water flow control structures specifically designed to manage high water volumes during heavy rainfall.
The delegation also inspected the alignment of new drainage systems and critical river deepening and widening works aimed at increasing water flow capacity.
Upon completion, the project is expected to benefit over 2,800 residents and protect an area of more than 330 acres from the threat of floods.
By mitigating recurring flood issues, the initiative aims to significantly improve the safety and quality of life for the local community.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations) and Samariang Assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, and the Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak and Tupong Assemblyman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman. — UKASnews
