RM1.054 Million Water Supply Project Strengthens Kampung Rumih Infrastructure
BAU: The continued commitment of the Sarawak Government to strengthening rural development is demonstrated through the implementation of the Treated Water Supply Pipeline Extension Project at Jalan Sungai Padang, Kampung Rumih which provides direct benefits to local residents.
The site handover ceremony was attended by Opar Assemblyman Billy Sujang, Kampung Rumih community leader KK Noni Nyopis and around 30 villagers.
Billy said the water supply project involves an original allocation of RM1.12 million with a contract value of RM1.054 million, covering the construction of a complete water supply system including a booster tank.
He said that the booster tank facility is highly important in ensuring that water supply remains sufficient, particularly during supply disruptions, thereby providing Kampung Rumih residents with an advantage compared to several other areas.
“The government does not merely focus on planning but more importantly seeks to ensure tangible outcomes for the well being of the people.
Projects like this reflect our continuous efforts to ensure that basic amenities reach the grassroots level,” he said.
He also acknowledged that issues related to water supply continue to be a major challenge in rural areas, particularly with regard to water quality which is affected during the rainy season.
He further explained that in this regard, efforts to develop a new water treatment plant are being actively pursued under the Sarawak government’s initiative to ensure that a long term solution can be realised.
In addition to the water supply project, several other infrastructure projects are also being implemented in Kampung Rumih including a RM1.12 million pipeline project, a RM400,000 agricultural road construction project, as well as an additional RM1.2 million allocation shared with other areas.
In terms of connectivity, the first phase of the house-to-house road project worth RM1.8 million has been fully completed while an additional RM300,000 application is being pursued for the second phase involving new houses.
In efforts to enhance community safety, the installation of street lights is currently in its final stage of site selection with priority given to public areas and high risk locations.
The Opar Assemblyman added that strong public support for the Sarawak government under the leadership of the Sarawak Premier is a key factor in the successful implementation of various rural development projects.
“This development is the result of cooperation from all parties.
“With continued support from the people, more projects can be implemented for the well being of all,” he opined. -UKASnews
