Deputy Sarawak Secretary Officiates Flag Handover Ceremony For MAKSAK Games 2026 Sepak Takraw Championship
KUCHING: Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel officiated the Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) Sarawak Contingent Flag Handover Ceremony at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Tuesday.
The flag handing over ceremony was held in conjunction with the Sarawak contingent’s participation in the National Level Sepak Takraw Championship MAKSAK Games 2026, scheduled to be held from 23 to 26 April in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah who is also the Vice President of MAKSAK Sarawak, in his speech expressed confidence in the capabilities of the Sarawak contingent and called on all players to display strong sportsmanship, discipline and full commitment throughout the tournament.
He also expressed hope that the MAKSAK Sarawak contingent could record outstanding achievements, bringing glory to the Sarawak Civil Service at the national level.
For this edition, MAKSAK Sarawak is sending a total of 15 players who will participate in the team event involving two Open Doubles and one Veteran Doubles.
The contingent will also be accompanied by five team officials to ensure the smooth management and welfare of the athletes throughout the tournament.
In the same event, Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah also honoured two MAKSAK Sarawak athletes who represented Malaysia on the world stage in the 7th World Carom Championship, which was held in Barceló Nasandhura, Malé, Maldives from 2 to 6 December 2025.
Mariati Hazmi from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Diana Mohamad from Kuching Courthouse were selected to join the 2025 Malaysian Carom Team for the prestigious tournament which brought together approximately 200 players from over 20 countries.
The participation of Sarawakian athletes marks the recognition of the capabilities of the state's athletes' and proves that MAKSAK Sarawak players are capable of competing at the international level. -UKASnews
