KUCHING: The remarkable achievement of two female athletes from MAKSAK Sarawak in breaking onto the stage at the 7th World Carrom Championship in the Maldives stands as clear proof of the state’s athletes’ ability to compete at a global level.

In recognition of their accomplishment, the Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, officiated an appreciation ceremony for the two athletes at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Tuesday.

Mariati Hazmi from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Diana Mohamad from the Kuching Court represented Malaysia in the prestigious championship held at Barceló Nasandhura, Malé, Maldives, from 2 to 6 December 2025, which drew participation from around 200 players across more than 20 countries.

Their participation not only brought pride to Malaysia but also strengthened Sarawak’s reputation as a state capable of producing athletes who can compete on the world stage. -UKASnews
