Pre-Gawai Programme Empowers Preservation Of Cultural Heritage
BINTULU: Pre-Gawai celebration programme is seen as playing a vital role in preserving and upholding the culture heritage of Sarawak’s multi-ethnic community.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, stated that such efforts are vital in ensuring that local traditions and cultural identity continue to be preserved and passed down to future generations.
According to him, Gawai celebration is not only a traditional festival for the Dayak community but also reflects the cultural diversity that serves as a strength for the unity of the people in this state.
“Malaysia is a multi-ethnic nation that must always maintain harmony by mutually respecting each other's cultures and religions,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Pre-Gawai Programme @Komuniti N.69 Kemena at Dinnerworld Restaurant here on Friday.
Dato Sri Tiong added that the organisation of such programmes also serves as a platform to bring the younger generation closer to cultural heritage, ensuring it remains relevant amidst the current of modernisation.
He stated that the effort is in line with the government's agenda to strengthen the cultural tourism sector, particularly ahead of the Visit Malaysia 2026 Campaign, which has been extended to 2027.
Consequently, he emphasised the importance of cooperation among all parties to ensure that cultural heritage and social unity remain preserved. -UKASnews
