Sarawak Legislative Assembly Passes Perbadanan Pembangunan Ekonomi Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2026
KUCHING: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) has passed the Perbadanan Pembangunan Ekonomi Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2026 after receiving unanimous support from members of the August House following the third reading on Tuesday.
The Bill was tabled by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and debated by 11 Assemblymen.
When winding up the debate, he stated that the amendment reflects the Sarawak Government's efforts to strengthen the SEDC as an institution, ensuring it remains aligned with current industry practices and the modern corporate landscape.
According to him, the government also engaged the World Bank in 2022 to evaluate the corporate governance practices of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), including statutory bodies and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs).
“The GPS government intends to transform SEDC into one of the leading SOEs in Sarawak with stronger governance, better transparency, and more strategic and commercial management,” he said.
He added that these efforts are expected to position SEDC as a world-class corporation capable of competing at an international level. -UKASnews
