Strengthening Homebuyer Protection: Sarawak Government Monitoring Treetops Project Diligently
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government has confirmed through its Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government that it remains fully committed to overcoming the hurdles currently affecting the Treetops Apartments project in Bintulu to ensure that homeowners are not left waiting beyond the planned timeframe.
Tanjong Batu Assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming said the ongoing delay has caused significant distress for future residents, many of whom are already servicing mortgages or awaiting relocation, leading to an urgent collective demand for the timely delivery of the properties they have rightfully purchased.
“The rakyat do not only want statements, they want delivery, and they want to see actual progress on the ground,” he said.
He said this when debating the Motion of Appreciation on the address delivered by the Sarawak Governor during the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Thursday.
He went on to stress the necessity for transparency and a clear path forward for individuals who are meeting their monthly loan commitments despite still being unable to move into their properties.
In addition to the Treetops project, the discussion turned to the escalating cost of homeownership in Bintulu, where a 40 per cent spike in construction has been recorded.
“We need to look at more affordable housing schemes, better planning of residential areas, timely infrastructure support, and stronger cooperation with developers so that the rakyat can still afford to own homes in the town where they live and work,” he said.
He affirmed that such efforts are vital to ensuring that development in Bintulu serves a social purpose, granting the younger generation and the local workforce the stability and dignity they deserve within the context of a flourishing Sarawak economy.-UKASnews
