Serian Division Resident Visits Landslide-Affected Area In Kampung Tesu Kura, Tebedu
TEBEDU: Serian Division Resident Caroline Cleophas Joseph paid a visit to the landslide site at Kampung Tesu Kura, Tebedu to assess the situation following an incident involving a house in the area.
The visit this morning was also attended by Tebedu District Officer Gerard George Entigar, Public Works Department (JKR) Serian Division Engineer TS. Chirusly Francis Kureng, as well as representatives from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Serian District Council.
The visit aimed to assess the extent of the damage and the current situation at the site before the estimated cost for repair works is submitted by the Serian Division Disaster Management Committee.
The victim, Michael Tanum, 56, who has been living with his wife and three children since 2013 in a government-assisted house under the Hardcore Poor Housing Project (PPRT) was affected by the incident.
According to JKR, the landslide was believed to have occurred due to continuous heavy rainfall as well as underground water movement caused by an inadequate drainage system in the area.
As an initial form of assistance, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Serian Division provided dry food supplies to the victim’s family to help ease their burden.
In the meantime, the victim hopes that the visit by the Serian Division Resident together with heads of departments and relevant agencies will expedite the approval of funding applications from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for repair works and follow-up actions at the incident site. -UKASnews
