Community-Based Approach Strengthens Efforts To Combat Drugs in Subis
NIAH: A community-based approach continues to be strengthened in efforts to eradicate drug abuse through the organisation of the Miri Drug-Free Aspirations Tour (JABD) 2026, held at the Sepupok Community Hall in Niah.
The program, organised by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Miri Division, successfully gathered around 250 participants including youth, the local community, the Anti-Drug SQUAD and representatives of Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK),in an effort to expand awareness regarding the dangers of drugs.
The closing ceremony of the programme was officiated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Malaysia and Member of Parliament for Sibuti Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
Earlier in the morning, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Women and Children Development and Bekenu Assemblyman, Datuk Rosey Yunus, flagged off a motorcycle convoy joined by local youth from around Subis, alongside the Anti-Drug SQUAD and KMKK representatives.
Various advocacy and community outreach activities were conducted throughout the programme, including walkabouts, the delivery of Anti-Drug Message (PESADA) advisories, home visits to RPDK clients and the asnaf, as well as an omnipresence approach around Kampung Masjid and Kampung Padang.
At the same time, various community activities were also held to attract local participation, including a slingshot competition, karaoke, children's colouring contests, as well as shrimp paste (belacan) and traditional ulam-ulaman making competitions.
The organisation of the programme reflects AADK's ongoing commitment to empowering drug prevention efforts through direct community involvement, while reinforcing public awareness of the shared responsibility to combat the drug menace. -UKASnews
