Sarawak Expands Maritime Governance With Marine Cadastre System Under PCDS 2030
KUCHING: Apart from bolstering land governance on the mainland, the Sarawak Government has extended its management of maritime areas through the development of the Marine Cadastre.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the system is designed to manage maritime boundaries and marine spatial data, while overseeing rights, restrictions and responsibilities (3R) across the sea surface, water column and seabed.
“The Marine Cadastre also clarifies maritime boundaries to protect Sarawak’s interests, reduce jurisdictional overlaps, and integrate land-marine spatial planning towards a more comprehensive 3D framework,” he said.
He said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Wednesday.
According to the Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, the initiative supports the objectives of both the Sarawak Blue Economy Policy and Road Map (SBEP) and the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
The implementation of the Marine Cadastre is ongoing from 2026 to 2028 through a collaboration between the Land and Survey Department Sarawak and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Johor, to ensure a holistic, effective and seamless administration of marine areas and resources. -UKASnews
