RWMF Strategic Platform To Elevate Sarawak's Identity On Global Stage
KUCHING: The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) continues to strengthen its standing as an internationally recognised tourism and cultural platform that brings Sarawak’s identity onto the global stage.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said RWMF has grown into a strategic platform to introduce Sarawak's culture, music and heritage to the world.
"For almost three decades, RWMF has proven that culture is not static, but continues to evolve across generations without sacrificing its authenticity,” he said in his text of speech read by MTCP Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew at the RWMF Appreciation Ceremony here, on Thursday.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim stressed that the festival's theme, which highlights cultural and rhythmic elements, reflects the balance between heritage preservation and creative innovation, thus reinforcing Sarawak's identity as a unique and authentic destination.
According to him, the success of the RWMF cannot be separated from the strong support of sponsors and strategic partners who continue to have confidence in Sarawak's potential as a competitive tourism destination.
"Sponsorship is not just financial support, but a form of belief in the strength of RWMF, the value of tourism and Sarawak's future in the global tourism industry," he explained.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim added that high-impact festivals such as RWMF play an important role in stimulating the local economy through the hospitality, aviation, food and beverage as well as creative industries sectors.
At the same time, it also encourages visitors to stay longer, explore more destinations and thus reinforce Sarawak's position on the world tourism map.
"Through RWMF, the world not only hears music, but also gets to know Sarawak through its traditions, society and spirit," he said.
He also stressed the importance of sustainable tourism development by ensuring a balance between environmental conservation, cultural protection and the wellbeing of local communities.
The ceremony also acknowledged the main sponsors including Malaysia Aviation Group, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly as well as media and strategic partners who supported the organisation of RWMF 2026.
The MTCP Minister also expressed his appreciation to all parties who remain committed to strengthening the Sarawak brand on the international stage through high-impact tourism platforms. -UKASnews
