Tematu EthnoFest 2026 Highlights Bidayuh Cultural Heritage
KUCHING: The Tematu EthnoFest 2026 which took place from 22 to 23 May at the Kampung Tematu Multipurpose Hall successfully gathered the local community, cultural enthusiasts and visitors from various areas to celebrate the unique heritage of the Bidayuh community.
The festival featured various cultural and community activities as well as traditional competitions, held in a lively atmosphere filled with the spirit of unity.
The festival’s opening night was graced by the presence of Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
Among the key events that attracted visitors were the Bitanding Sindok Dayung Gawea Tematu 2026, Bitanding Onak Dayung Gawea Tematu 2026 and Bitanding Onak Dari Pogan Gawea Tematu 2026 competitions which highlighted talent, traditional presentation and cultural appreciation among the local community.
The highlight of the programme continued on the night of 23 May through the final of the Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu 2026 competition which received enthusiastic response from visitors.
The ceremony was officiated by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman Cr Tan Kai, accompanied by Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang.
In the final competition, Glydis Gladly Francis was crowned champion after demonstrating confidence, grace and an excellent appreciation of cultural heritage throughout the event.
The runner-up title was won by Melcy James, while third place went to Patricia Paschal Pilin.
The organisation of the Tematu EthnoFest 2026 once again demonstrated the commitment of the Kampung Tematu community in preserving and elevating Bidayuh cultural heritage through a platform that not only showcases art and tradition but also strengthens community unity and has the potential to become a cultural tourism attraction in Sarawak. - UKASnews
