Sungai Asap Digital Village Set To Boost Digital Connectivity In Murum
BELAGA: The RM36 million Sungai Asap Digital Village (SADV) project is currently being implemented to further strengthen rural digital economy development, particularly in the Sungai Asap and Murum areas.
Murun Assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon said the project involves the provision of high-speed internet infrastructure using fibre optic technology as part of efforts to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural communities.
“I hope this project can proceed smoothly and be completed according to schedule without any disruptions, as it represents a major step towards bridging the digital gap between urban and rural areas,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the opening ceremony of the Ladong Bio Lepa Ajau 2026 Persatuan Kebangsaan Kenyah Sarawak (PKKS) Sungai Asap Belaga Branch at the Uma Kulit Hall on Tuesday.
More importantly, he said the project will serve as a catalyst for digital economic development in rural areas.
In line with the development of the SADV, Kennedy had also proposed the establishment of a Smart Agriculture Transformation Centre (SATC) within the Bakun Resettlement Scheme (BRS) area in Sungai Asap during the previous Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting.
According to him, the proposed SATC will serve as a smart farming development centre based on modern technology, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), agricultural drones and various other smart farming technologies.
He expressed confidence that with such developments in place, Sungai Asap and Murum could emerge as examples of progressive and technology-driven rural development. -UKASnews
