Sarawak Strengthens Strategic Investment & Economic Cooperation With OCI In South Korea
SEOUL: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan led a delegation from Sarawak on a working visit to OCI Holdings Ltd in Seoul, South Korea as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic cooperation and investment ties between Sarawak and the Republic of Korea.
OCI's investment in Sarawak supports the development of the Sarawak's high-technology industries while contributing significantly to economic growth, business opportunities, and employment for the local community.
OCI’s operations at Samalaju Industrial Park through OCI TerraSus currently employ approximately 1,100 workers, of whom about 90 per cent are Sarawakians.
During the visit, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah encouraged OCI to continue prioritising local participation and content in its business operations.
He also expressed confidence in OCI’s long-term investment commitment in Sarawak and reaffirmed that the Sarawak Government will continue to uphold its business-friendly policies and whole-of-government approach in facilitating and supporting the company’s investments in the state.
OCI places strong emphasis on local talent development through structured career development programmes, professional capability-building initiatives, and various overseas training in Korea and Japan.
Through these initiatives, OCI remains committed to nurturing a highly skilled local workforce and supporting the development of globally competitive Sarawakian talent.
The company’s strong confidence in Sarawak’s industrial ecosystem has also enabled the expansion of its business ventures through strategic partnerships with Kumho P&B Chemicals Inc. of the Republic of Korea through OCIKumho and Tokuyama Corporation of Japan through OTSM.
