Betong Gawai Open House Strengthens Unity Among Multi-Ethnic Communities
BETONG: The spirit of unity and harmony among Sarawak’s multi-ethnic communities continues to be strengthened through the Gawai Day Open House jointly organised by Layar Assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu and Betong Member of Parliament Dato Dr Richard Rapu.
The event was held in a lively atmosphere at the Chung Hua SJKC Sports Hall on Tuesday.
Datuk Gerald said the spirit of unity, which serves as the strength of the people of Sarawak, must continue to be preserved and reinforced regardless of race, religion or background, in line with the ‘Segulai Sejalai’ concept that has long been practised by the people of the state.
According to him, celebrations such as Gawai Day not only provide an opportunity to honour the cultural heritage of the Dayak community but also serve as a platform to strengthen bonds of friendship and foster mutual understanding among people of different ethnic backgrounds.
The event, which took place from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, attracted approximately 1,500 visitors from various communities, including the Iban, Malay and Chinese communities, who attended to celebrate the occasion in a warm and harmonious atmosphere.
The event was further graced by the presence of Sarawak Deputy Premier, who is also Minister for Finance and New Economy and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and his wife, Datin Amar Doreen Mayang.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak (Community Wellbeing) Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan, former Betong Member of Parliament Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat, as well as other distinguished guests.
Meanwhile, Dato Dr Richard said the harmony and tolerance enjoyed by the people of Sarawak today are valuable assets in ensuring political stability and the continued implementation of the state's development agenda.
He noted that strong social stability enables the government to plan and implement various development initiatives more effectively to improve the people's standard of living and overall wellbeing.
The organisation of open house events such as this continues to serve as an important platform for strengthening ties between leaders and the people, while preserving the harmony of Sarawak’s multi-ethnic society, which remains the foundation of the state's progress and prosperity. -UKASnews
