Sarawak Awaits Final Approval From China For Fudan University Campus
SIBU: Sarawak is getting closer to realising the establishment of Fudan University's first overseas campus, as it awaits the final approval from the Chinese Government before the project can be implemented.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, revealed that he will be visiting Beijing next week to obtain the final agreement from the Chinese Government regarding the proposal to establish the prestigious higher education institution in Sarawak.
According to him, the proposal has received agreement from the Shanghai Government, the Sarawak Government, and the Malaysian Government, with approval from the Chinese Government being the only remaining requirement.
“What is still needed is approval from the Chinese Government in Beijing, and that is why I will be going to Beijing next week in hopes of obtaining that final approval.
“I have also requested assistance from the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Malaysia to ensure that the Chinese Government grants its consent for this initiative,” he said.
He said this when met by the media at a dinner ceremony held in conjunction with the official visit of the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Malaysia, His Excellency Ouyang Yujing, organised by the United Chinese Association (UCA) Sibu on Tuesday.

In the meantime, he emphasised that talent development and education continue to be among the Sarawak Government's main agendas in its efforts to develop human capital and strengthen state development.
According to him, the Sarawak Government is committed to investing in the education sector through various initiatives, including free higher education and financial assistance for eligible students.
