LUNDU: The spirit of goodwill continued to flourish as more than 1,000 visitors attended the Gawai Open House hosted by Opar Assemblyman Billy Sujang at his residence in Kampung Sebako 2 on Wednesday.
The event, which began at noon, brought together people from various ethnic and religious backgrounds in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of unity that has become a hallmark of Sarawak's people.
Among those who attended were Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, and Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Kho Teck Wan.
The celebration also featured a variety of traditional Gawai dishes served to guests, providing an opportunity for visitors to socialise and strengthen ties of friendship in a harmonious setting.
The open house was held in line with the Sarawak Government's aspiration of continuously emphasising the importance of unity, mutual understanding and harmony among the state's multi-ethnic communities as the foundation of stability and development.
Apart from serving as a platform to celebrate the festive occasion, programmes of this nature also help strengthen the relationship between leaders and the people through direct interaction in a relaxed and friendly environment. -UKASnews
