Unity The Foundation Of Sarawak’s Stability & Progress
SIBU: The spirit of unity and harmony practised by Sarawak’s multi-ethnic communities continues to serve as the cornerstone of the state's political stability, economic progress and sustainable development.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the longhouse culture, which emphasises togetherness and mutual respect, reflects the strength of unity among the people of Sarawak and must be preserved to ensure the state remains progressive and prosperous by 2030.
“Longhouse culture symbolises unity. When we are united, stability can be achieved. When there is stability, progress and prosperity will follow.
“Therefore, it is crucial for us to maintain this unity and stability to ensure that we continue to advance and prosper by the year 2030,” he said.
He said this during a visit programme with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, to Rumah Joseph Abet in Bawang Assan on Wednesday.
Datuk Amar Dr Sim added that the stability currently enjoyed by Sarawak has enabled the state government to implement various development projects and initiatives that directly benefit the people.
He said that this year alone, the Sarawak Government is undertaking development projects worth RM9 billion while continuing to provide various forms of assistance to the people, including support in education and welfare.
Meanwhile, Datuk Amar Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said Ouyang’s visit to the longhouse during the Gawai Dayak celebration reflected growing international recognition of Sarawak.
He explained that although the ambassador had previously visited Kuching and Miri, he chose to visit Bintulu and Sibu during this year’s Gawai season to gain a deeper understanding of Sarawak’s culture and way of life.
He also described the Gawai Dayak celebration as more than just an annual festival, noting that it plays an important role in strengthening family ties, fostering a spirit of sharing and reinforcing unity among the state’s diverse communities.
Also present were Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Xing Weiping, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Bukit Assek Assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek, Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, and Sibu Rural District Council (MDLBS) Deputy Chairman, Councillor Wong Ching Yong. -UKASnews
