Bandar Lawas Bridge Reaches 97.27 Per Cent Progress, Expected Completion This September
LAWAS: The Bandar Lawas Bridge project has currently recorded progress of 97.27 per cent and is expected to be fully completed in September this year, thereby becoming a catalyst for development and economic growth in the area across Lawas town.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said several additional works are being carried out to beautify and improve the facilities on the bridge before it is fully opened to users.
“To date, the project's progress has reached 97.27 per cent and it is expected to be fully completed in September.
“We are also implementing several additions to further enhance this bridge so that it provides better benefits to the people,” he said during a site inspection to monitor the project's progress on Sunday.
According to him, the 642-metre bridge will reduce travel time to Lawas, besides establishing better connectivity between the urban area and the opposite side, such as Merapok and the route leading to Sabah.
The Bukit Sari Assemblyman added that the project is part of the northern coastal road network development that will complete the road connectivity in the northern region of Sarawak.
“Once completed, this bridge will facilitate development planning on the opposite side and become part of our efforts to expand and develop Lawas Town in the future,” he stated.
The project, implemented by the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), involves a contract cost of over RM149 million and encompasses the construction of an iconic bridge featuring a 44.3-metre high arch tower structure, a cable-stayed suspension system, as well as a main road and access road network. — UKASnews
