Trusan Town Redevelopment To Be Implemented in Stages
LAWAS: The Sarawak Government plans to implement the redevelopment of Trusan Town in stages through the Urban Renewal Programme to create a town that is more modern, organised, and viable.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the execution of the Northern Coastal Highway (NCH) project will affect several existing stalls in the area, and the involved traders will be temporarily relocated to an identified site to enable them to continue their business activities.
According to him, the Lawas District Council will upgrade basic facilities, including the access road to the temporary relocation site, to ensure the comfort of the traders.
“The stalls affected by the implementation of the Northern Coastal Highway will be temporarily placed in this area so that they can continue their businesses as usual while the project is carried out,” he said.
He said this during a site inspection of the traders' temporary relocation area in Trusan Town on Sunday.
He added that the government has approved the local redevelopment plan for Trusan Town, which encompasses various components to boost local economic activities.
Among the proposed developments to be implaemented are the construction of a sub-district office, blocks of shophouses, a weekly market space, a petrol station, a heavy vehicle parking area, and several other facilities tailored to the community's needs.
Datuk Amar Awang Tengah noted that the area across Trusan Town will also continue to be developed, including the provision of housing, sports facilities, and potentially the construction of quarters for public servants based on current needs.
He explained that the planning aims to transform Trusan Town into a more structured commercial and services hub, thereby elevating the economic standards and well-being of the local residents. — UKASnews
