Sarawak Premier Witnesses Handover Of RM1 Million Zakat From BDA To TBS
KUCHING: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, witnessed the handover of RM1 million in zakat from the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).
The zakat was handed over by BDA General Manager, Datu Muhamad Yakup Kari, to TBS at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here on Wednesday.
According to a media statement from BDA, the zakat will be managed by TBS before being distributed to the poor, needy, and eligible asnaf recipients.
Also witnessing the ceremony were BDA Deputy Chairman, Dato Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, BDA board members, as well as the top management line-up of the agency.
Present representing TBS were the President of the Sarawak Islamic Council Datuk Misnu Taha, Acting TBS General Manager Iskandar Allan, Head of the TBS Operations Sector Mohd Yusree Mohd Zain, Head of the TBS Communication Division
Mohd Huzaid Husaini, and Acting Head of the TBS Promotion and Dakwah Division Mohd Nazir Kiprawi.
In the same statement, BDA emphasised that zakat is not merely an obligation to be fulfilled, but is a trust and an important instrument for strengthening the well-being of the ummah and assisting those in need.
The zakat funds will be channelled through TBS to eligible recipients in line with the principles of social justice in Islam, thereby helping to elevate the standard of living for communities in need. — UKASnews
