Public Urged To Maintain Cleanliness & Safety At Batang Lupar 1 Bridge
KUCHING: The public have been urged to play their part in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, which has emerged as one of Sarawak’s newest landmarks and tourist attractions.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the completed bridge has received an overwhelmingly positive response from both local communities and visitors from outside the state.
According to him, the growing number of visitors to the site requires the cooperation of all parties to ensure the area remains clean, orderly and safe for public use.
“On behalf of the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, we are taking steps to provide waste disposal facilities and will continue monitoring the area because we want this place to remain clean and attractive,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after chairing the Sarawak-Level Gawai Dayak Celebration Main Committee meeting at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex on Monday.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah added that the bridge holds significant tourism potential, noting that an increasing number of international visitors have been travelling to the location to see the iconic structure for themselves.
He therefore called on all parties, including the locals, to work together in safeguarding the asset and preserving Sarawak’s reputation.
“Let us take good care of this facility so that it continues to be a source of pride for future generations.
“JKR will take the necessary measures to ensure cleanliness remains one of the defining features of Batang Lupar,” he said.
Commenting further on safety, the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development advised motorists to drive responsibly and adhere to the designated speed limits.
He added that JKR is currently reviewing several issues related to facilities and maintenance at the bridge area and is expected to submit a report within the next two weeks. -UKASnews
