Dinner Event To Serve As Highlight Of Sarawak-Level Gawai Dayak Celebration This Year
KUCHING: The 2026 Sarawak-Level Gawai Dinner, to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on 21 June, is expected to be the highlight of this year’s Gawai Dayak celebration, bringing together top leadership of the state and nation.
Sarawak Deputy Premier and Chairman of the 2026 Sarawak-Level Gawai Dayak Celebration Organising Committee Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the prestigious event will be graced by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
He said Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg are also expected to attend the event.
“Today, together with members of the organising committee, I paid a courtesy call on Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi to extend an official invitation to grace the event,” he told reporters after the courtesy call at the Astana Negeri Sarawak on Monday.
He added that among the key highlights set to enliven the occasion are the traditional 'Bebiau Pengabang' (blessings for visitors) ceremony and the Gawai Toast, both of which serve as symbols of reverence for the customs and culture of the Dayak community.
In addition, guests will also be treated to an exclusive musical theatre performance themed ‘Ruai to the World’ which will showcase the unique heritage, culture and identity of the Dayak community to a wider audience.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the 2026 Sarawak-Level Gawai Dayak Celebration carries the theme ‘Segulai Sejalai’ which conveys the spirit of togetherness, solidarity and unity among people of all races in the state.
Also present during the courtesy call were Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat. -UKASnews
