Algae-Based Fuel From Gedong Potentially Used By AirBorneo
GEDONG: The sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced based on algae in Gedong has the potential to be used by the state-owned airline, AirBorneo in the future.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said algae is one of the new sources that can be processed to produce fuel, including aviation fuel.
"This algae is used to produce fuel, including aviation fuel.
"If we can produce it, AirBorneo will use fuel from Borneo as well, maybe from Gedong.
"Therefore, these are all new technologies," he said when speaking at the Gedong District Ngiling Bidai Gawai Dayak Ceremony in Kampung Keniong Jaya, here, on Monday.
In the meantime, the Sarawak Premier has also requested for PETROS to examine the potential natural gas resources in Gedong following the discovery of gas emissions when construction work was carried out in the area.
He said the same situation occurred in Lawas, indicating a possibility of the existence of natural gas underground.
“When we were constructing buildings in Gedong and carrying out piling works, gas often escaped from the ground, which also occurred in Lawas.
“It means that there must be gas underground, which is what is known as natural gas,” he explained.
Also present were Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, Ministry for International Trade, Industry and Investment Advisor Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Rodiyah Sapiee, Samarahan Division Resident Irwan Bahari Bujang, heads of departments and other dignitaries. -UKASnews
