Batang Lupar Bridge 1 Symbol Of Unity, Sarawak's Development Catalyst
SEBUYAU: Sarawak's success in realising the construction of the longest river crossing bridge in Malaysia reflects that the unity of people of various races and religions as the main foundation that enables the state's development agenda to be implemented successfully.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that the achievement not only symbolises the state's engineering capabilities, but is also a symbol of the strength of the unity of the people, which is the cornerstone of Sarawak’s progress.
According to him, the existence of the bridge should serve as a reminder to all citizens that the progress experienced today was born from the agreement of multi-racial and religious communities that are firmly united in supporting the state's development agenda.
"Let this bridge remind us that it is the result of the unity of people of various races and religions. This is what reminds us of the importance of continuing to remain united,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge Opening Ceremony, here on Thursday.
In the meantime, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari stressed that Sarawak requires leadership that is far-sighted, inclusive and always prioritises the interests of all people regardless of race or religious background.
He said that this approach is the principle of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government in continuing the development agenda, especially in rural areas that still require various basic facilities and infrastructure.
"We need leaders who are able to see the future, include all races and work for the community. That is why the GPS Government focuses on rural development because we endeavour to increase the income of the people's households," he said.
For the record, Batang Lupar Bridge 1 was designed as a one-way two-lane bridge that crosses Batang Lupar, complete with 87 river piers and constructed according to JKR R5 Standards.
With a total length of 4,884 meters, the project marks one of the most significant bridge structures ever developed in Sarawak. -UKASnews
