Kota Samarahan Chosen For Karnival Jom Heboh Thanks To Potential As New Growth Hub
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government has chosen Kota Samarahan to host the Karnival Jom Heboh Segulai Sejalai Sarawak 2026 due to its potential as a rapidly developing new growth hub, thereby expanding the hosting of large-scale events to areas outside Kuching city.
Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the selection of Kota Samarahan was made based on the area's rapid advancement in terms of development, population growth, infrastructure facilities, and its expanding role as an education town.
“Kota Samarahan is currently growing rapidly and possesses all the advantages to be a location for hosting large-scale events. We want the development and benefits from programmes like this to also be felt by communities in expanding areas,” he said.
He said this during a press conference for the Karnival Jom Heboh Segulai Sejalai Sarawak 2026 here on Friday.
According to him, the state government is taking the approach of bringing more major programmes to areas with high development potential so that economic, tourism, and social benefits can be enjoyed more evenly across Sarawak.
He added that Kota Samarahan is not only known as an education town that houses several institutions of higher learning, but it also continues to grow as a strategic residential, commercial, and service centre in southern Kuching. — UKASnews
