SABERKAS Proposes Construction Of New Headquarters Complex In Petra Jaya
SIBU: The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) proposes to develop a new headquarters complex in Petra Jaya to accommodate the growing need for recreational, sports, and event space facilities.
Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, who is also the President of SABERKAS, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the plan was drawn up following a shortage of available venues for sports activities and wedding receptions in the surrounding area.
“SABERKAS is looking at something bigger because in Kuching, there is a need for recreational venues, especially for sports and wedding receptions. We are facing issues regarding such facilities.
“That is why we intend to have a new headquarters complex equipped with sports facilities that can also be used for wedding receptions and other events,” he said.
He said this when met at the Welcoming Dinner in conjunction with the 18th SABERKAS Sarawak Triennial General Meeting (TGM) here on Saturday.
According to Dato Sri Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, the organisation's solid financial standing makes it possible to realise the project.
He revealed that an area in Petra Jaya has been identified, and further discussions will be held with the Land and Survey Department for the approval or land acquisition process from the Sarawak Government.
He noted that the upcoming complex is targeted to become an iconic building, considering that the youth organisation has now reached 53 years since its establishment.
However, he emphasised that the proposal is still at an early stage, and detailed information regarding the design and cost will only be announced after obtaining approval from the state government.
“At this stage, it is still in the early phase, and we need to discuss with the state government.
“Once this matter is agreed upon and finalised, only then can the project details and cost be shared with the public and the media,” he explained. — UKASnews
