Youths Of Sarawak Must Become Inventors, Create Job Opportunities
SIBU: Sarawak's youth must dare to shift from being mere consumers to creators of products and job opportunities to ensure they are able to drive the state's new economy.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that the changing global economic landscape demands that the younger generation master new knowledge and technology, as well as dare to take calculated risks.
"So, we must become creators who create job opportunities. Take calculated risks because otherwise, we cannot move forward," he said.
He said this when opening the 18th Triennial General Assembly of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) here on Sunday.
According to Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, the youth must take advantage of Sarawak's strengths in various fields such as modern agriculture, clean energy, digital technology and semiconductor-based industries.
He said that technological developments also provide ample space for the younger generation to produce new innovations and expand the market for products from Sarawak to the regional and East Asian levels.
“Today’s gathering had to take into account the strengths that Sarawak has. The second is to produce youth not only to play a role, but to create something new to elevate Sarawak as a global player in the world economy.
“Therefore, I mention critical because the future is in the hands of the youth. If you do well and create new products, you will definitely succeed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak Premier said that the development of young human capital should be given priority to ensure that the state has a skilled workforce that can meet the economic needs of the future.
He said that among the efforts of the Sarawak government is to provide free education at state-owned universities to students who are qualified and accepted to follow 64 disciplines of study.
He said that Sarawak also needs to continue to develop new economic platforms to create more job opportunities and reduce the migration of young talents abroad.
He also urged the youth not to be afraid to master new technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), but instead to use technological advances wisely with human considerations and thinking.
