STIDC, KSFA Explore Collaboration To Strengthen Furniture Industry
KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) received a courtesy visit from the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Furniture Association (KSFA) on Thursday, aimed at strengthening industry ties and exploring business opportunities in Sarawak’s furniture and timber sectors.
According to a statement by STIDC, the nine-member KSFA delegation led by its President Cindy Kong, was welcomed by STIDC General Manager Datu Zainal Abidin Abdullah.
Datu Zainal Abidin said the visit provided a valuable platform to connect KSFA’s strong manufacturing capabilities and international market reach with Sarawak’s sustainable timber resources and growing industrial infrastructure.
He said Sarawak was moving towards greater utilisation of timber from sustainable and renewable forest plantations, in line with Sarawak’s development aspirations under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“STIDC is fully committed to supporting KSFA members interested in establishing or expanding their operations in Sarawak. We hope today’s visit will be the beginning of continued engagement and stronger collaboration with local industry players,” he said in the statement on Friday.
Meanwhile, Cindy Kong said KSFA valued the opportunity to better understand Sarawak’s timber industry and explore ways to strengthen cooperation with STIDC.
She said KSFA was also interested in exploring how Sarawak’s timber and plywood resources could be further utilised to produce higher-value furniture products for the Malaysian and international markets.
STIDC added that during the visit, the delegation was briefed on Sarawak’s furniture sector, including its development plans and future direction by STIDC Senior Assistant General Manager of Licensing, Planning and Industrial Development Nicholas Andrew Lissem.
The engagement is expected to provide a platform for greater industry linkages, business opportunities and collaboration between furniture industry players in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia. -UKASnews
