KUCHING: Preparations for the 2026 Malaysia Day celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) have entered its final stage, with a focus on technical aspects, media facilities and the smooth execution of performances ahead of the main event on September 16.

Minister of Communications Dato Sri Fahmi Fadzil stated that an inspection during the full rehearsal on Monday showed preparations proceeding smoothly, including visitor facilities and internet connectivity readiness for media personnel.

“I have spoken with the MCMC to ensure that internet access, whether via WiFi or mobile networks, is excellent and sufficient for our media personnel to carry out their duties,” he said on Monday.

According to him, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) reported that all necessary equipment from telecommunications companies has been installed and is functioning well.

Meanwhile, technical aspects of the performances, particularly audio, are being fine-tuned to ensure the event and performances run seamlessly.

Dato Sri Fahmi also observed the full rehearsal, which featured cultural performances from Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Sabah, as well as several symbolic events marking the celebration.

Also present were Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Minister-In-Charge for the event in Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, as well as Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat.

The celebration on 16 September is scheduled to be attended by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor. -UKASnews
