KUALA LUMPUR: The Sarawak Government has submitted several proposals regarding investment and industrial development for consideration in Federal Budget 2027, focusing specifically on investment incentives, strategic industries, and industrial infrastructure.

This was among the key points of discussion when Sarawak Deputy Premier cum Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan paid a courtesy call on Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Malaysia Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani here on Monday.

Also present was Secretary-General of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Datuk Hairil Yahri Yaacob.

According to a press statement, the discussion also focused on strengthening cooperation between the Sarawak Government and the Federal Government in attracting high-quality and high-value investments, boosting industrial competitiveness, and supporting Sarawak's long-term economic development.

Both parties further discussed opportunities to expand new and high-value industries, including advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, the digital economy, clean energy, as well as downstream and tech-driven activities.

In the meantime, emphasis was placed on the importance of providing appropriate incentives, infrastructure, talent, and investment ecosystems to support incoming new investments and the expansion of existing industries.

The statement further explained that the Sarawak Government prioritizes these areas in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and Malaysia's investment and industrial agenda, particularly in creating high-quality jobs, developing local talent, empowering local businesses, and advancing technology and innovation.

Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in facilitating strategic investments, empowering industrial development, and opening up greater economic opportunities for Sarawak and Malaysia.

Datuk Amar Awang Tengah was also accompanied by Advisor to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, Permanent Secretary to MINTRED Datu Lester Matthew, alongside senior officials from MINTRED. — UKASnews
