SPAOH: Spaoh has the potential to emerge as a commercial agriculture hub through the development of integrated farms capable of boosting crop production and opening up wider market opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the area's agricultural potential must be harnessed through commercial-scale production to enhance supply chain efficiency and the sector's competitiveness.
According to him, infrastructure and transport network developments in the Betong area, including the Bebuling STOLport have the potential to support efforts of market expansion for Spaoh’s agricultural produce to other destinations.
"We cultivate crops in Spaoh and sell them outside the area such as to Kuching, through the Bebuling STOLport," he said.
He made these remarks while visiting the Bebuling Agropark on Sunday to inspect the progress of agricultural activities in the area.
The Bukit Saban Assemblyman noted that the Bebuling STOLport would complement existing connectivity networks by providing new transportation options for residents and industry players.
In this regard, he encouraged the local community to utilise the developed infrastructure to expand their economic activities, particularly in the agricultural sector.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah also emphasised the importance of adopting appropriate agricultural technologies to boost productivity, production efficiency and crop yields.
He stated that the use of technology could boost the competitiveness of agricultural activities and to be more market-oriented, while also supporting the development of an integrated agriculture ecosystem in Spaoh.
Also present were Betong District Council Secretary Lister Clement Guwie, Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier Roseline Mapong as well as community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) from the Bukit Saban area. -UKASnews
