Jeju Island Next On AirBorneo’s Radar After Jakarta
KUCHING: Jeju Island, South Korea is expected to be among AirBorneo’s new destinations after Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of efforts to expand Sarawak’s air connectivity to international markets.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the expansion of AirBorneo’s flight network would strengthen Sarawak’s links with regional and international markets, particularly in the tourism sector.
“We already have flights to Singapore and now to Jakarta, the next destination will be Jeju Island,” he said when speaking at the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Gala Dinner held at a leading hotel here on Sunday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari noted that flights to new destinations would not only facilitate passenger travel but also open opportunities for Sarawak to introduce local products to international markets.
He added that Sarawak food products such as umai and nasi dabai could be showcased to AirBorneo customers, thus connecting local products to the global market especially within ASEAN.
He said AirBorneo would not only serve passengers but could also be used to bring products made in Sarawak to markets in those destinations.
Meanwhile, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari said AirBorneo is expected to commence flights to Jakarta at the end of this month, opening up more opportunities for interaction in the tourism sector, including bringing visitors from neighbouring countries to Sarawak.
“We will bring in our neighbours who require medical treatment in Sarawak.
“They come here with their families, and naturally, they will try kolo mee, kek lapis and so on. It creates another market for us,” he explained. -UKASnews
