“As of September 25, 2026, the Bukit Sagan–Nanga Merit–Ulu Lubai road upgrading project has recorded physical progress of 37.24 per cent.
“Site clearing works have been completed, earthworks are nearly finished, and works related to drainage, culverts, as well as bridge construction are still being carried out,” he said.
He said this in response to a question from Batu Danau Assemblyman Dato Paulus Gumbang at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting here on Wednesday.
The project, executed by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, involves an allocation of RM44,548,676.50 under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW).
Commencing on June 13, 2025, the project is scheduled for full completion by June 12, 2027.
The scope of implementation includes site clearing, earthworks, drainage system construction, installation of 26 High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) culverts, and the construction of four new reinforced concrete bridges.
Additionally, the project involves upgrading a 13.6-kilometre gravel road to a paved road adhering to JKR R1 standards with a six-meter width, complete with road furniture and pavement markings.
Upon completion, the project is expected to enhance connectivity for the residents of Ulu Lubai with three schools, four longhouses, a clinic along the alignment, and Limbang town.
The road upgrade will also provide safer and more comfortable travel facilities, thereby facilitating movement and daily activities for local residents.
In the meantime, land reclamation works to elevate the road level are expected to help mitigate flood risks that previously affected the route frequently. — UKASnews
