KUCHING: The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) continues to expand its youth development network across Sarawak through 82 branches statewide, as well as the establishment of clubs at higher learning institutions, with the aim of cultivating young leaders capable of advancing the state’s development agenda.
SABERKAS President Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the organisation currently has a total of 57,928 members, including 54,233 regular members, reflecting the organisation's growth in membership.
According to him, the SABERKAS club has been established at several higher learning institutions including Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Swinburne University of Technology, and i-CAT University College to broaden the participation of university students in the youth movement.
"We hope that through this club, once they complete their studies, these individuals will be able to help elevate SABERKAS to even greater heights," he said.
He made these remarks during a press conference following the 61st Meeting of the SABERKAS Sarawak Supreme Committee at a hotel here on Thursday.
In a related development, SABERKAS carried out 66 programmes between July and September of this year, consisting of 43 programmes organised independently and 23 programmes conducted in collaboration with strategic partners.
Of this total, 27 programmes comprised seminars, workshops, meetings and briefings whereas 20 were social, entrepreneurial and welfare-oriented initiatives, meanwhile 17 focused on sports, recreation and culture, while two were dedicated to women’s affairs.
He noted that combining the experience of existing leaders with fresh ideas from the younger generation is essential to ensuring that SABERKAS continues to grow as a platform for developing the future leaders of Sarawak. -UKASnews
