Sarawak Stadium Upgrading Project Enters Final 100-Day Countdown To 2027 SEA Games
KUCHING: The Sarawak Stadium upgrading project has entered its final 100-day phase before completion, marking a significant milestone in the state’s preparations to co-host the 34th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2027.
This milestone was commemorated on Thursday during a gathering of nearly 100 project team members, led by Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) and 2027 SEA Games Sarawak Cluster Secretariat Chairman Datu Hii Chang Kee.
The event was attended by officials from the Sarawak Ministry for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) as well as consultants and contractors.
The programme, themed ‘The Race to 100 Days to Completion’, was held to celebrate the progress achieved thus far and to acknowledge the collective effort and commitment of all parties involved in transforming the iconic stadium into a world-class sports venue.
The afternoon session featured activities such as a relay race, a penalty shootout and an afternoon tea, providing an opportunity for team members to strengthen ties, enhance collaboration and recognise the contributions of everyone involved in the project.
The transformation of the Sarawak Stadium is becoming increasingly apparent, with the new facade and roof structures now clearly showing their design.
The installation of new spectator seating featuring the colours of the Sarawak flag further highlights the state’s identity within the stadium.
The upgraded stadium is set to take centre stage on 18 September 2027, when Sarawak hosts the official opening ceremony of the 34th SEA Games.
The project marks a key component of the state’s preparations to host the regional multi-sport event, an undertaking expected to showcase Sarawak’s ability to manage large-scale events, while providing a meaningful experience for athletes, officials and spectators.
The progress achieved thus far reflects the close coordination and strong commitment of the project team, with all parties urged to maintain this momentum while ensuring that the highest standards of quality and safety continue to be upheld.
Beyond the physical upgrading of facilities, the project embodies Sarawak’s aspirations and determination to ensure a successful hosting of the SEA Games for both the state and Malaysia.
As the final 100-day countdown begins, the focus has shifted toward ensuring the project is completed in accordance with established standards and is prepared to support the smooth execution of the regional games. -UKASnews
