KUCHING: All 22 organising committees for the Sarawak Cluster of the 34th SEA Games 2027 must strengthen coordination and refine their respective responsibilities to ensure that preparations for the regional multi-sport event proceed smoothly.
Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) and Sarawak Cluster Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman Datu Hii Chang Kee said that the success of the event depends on close cooperation among all committees, particularly in coordinating interconnected operational requirements.
"Each committee must understand its own role and identify any overlapping responsibilities, undefined tasks, or areas requiring support from other committees in order to prevent gaps in coordination," he said.
He said this while delivering a speech at the 2027 SEA Games Working Committee Coordination Workshop held here on Friday.
In this regard, he noted that the workshop would focus on reviewing Terms of Reference (TOR), finalising implementation schedules and coordinating requirements across committees, ensuring that every responsibility has a designated owner, a clear deadline and defined follow-up actions.
Datu Hii added that preparations also include the organisation of the opening ceremony and the management of 18 of the 43 sports events assigned to Sarawak.
This includes the provision of venues, transportation, accommodation, security, medical services and digital systems.
In total, the investment for hosting the 2027 SEA Games amounts to approximately half a billion ringgit, which includes the upgrading of stadiums and sports facilities to meet the requirements of the Games.
The workshop running from 23 to 25 October serves as a platform to coordinate planning and identify issues requiring further decisions in consultation with the Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC), ahead of the event that will bring together athletes from 11 Southeast Asian nations. -UKASnews
