Academic Success Marks The Beginning Of Greater Responsibilities
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Academic success achieved by graduates is not the pinnacle of their accomplishments, but rather the beginning of greater responsibilities to contribute to society through knowledge, integrity and good character.
Sarawak Governor and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Chancellor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said graduates must demonstrate the value of their education not merely through academic qualifications, but also through their ability to solve problems and contribute to the well-being of others.
He said the knowledge acquired at university should serve as the foundation for developing mature thinking, sound judgement and the ability to make appropriate decisions when facing various challenges in life.
“In the future, society will assess you not merely on the basis of your academic qualifications, but also on your character, integrity, problem-solving abilities and contributions to others,” he said.
He said this when delivering his address at the First Session of the 30th UNIMAS Convocation Ceremony at Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra (DeTAR Putra), UNIMAS, on Monday.
Meanwhile, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi also reminded graduates not to forget the sacrifices made by their parents, family members, educators and all those who had helped them achieve success.
He said the success being celebrated did not belong to the graduates alone, but was also a shared achievement of their families and everyone who had contributed to their educational journey.
In this regard, he expressed his appreciation to parents and family members for their support, love, prayers and sacrifices, which had played an important role in the graduates' educational journey.
He also advised graduates to always remember those who had helped them along the way and never forget their roots, regardless of how far they progressed in their future careers.
The First Session was also attended by Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, UNIMAS Board of Directors Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, members of the UNIMAS Executive Committee, Deputy Vice-Chancellors and members of the University's Board of Directors. -UKASnews
