Graduates Must Forge New Achievements Instead Of Inheriting Progress
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Graduates of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) are urged not to be content with merely inheriting the progress achieved by previous generations but instead take on the responsibility of forging new, greater and more meaningful accomplishments for the future of Sarawak and Malaysia.
Sarawak Governor and UNIMAS Chancellor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that the future of both the state and the nation is anchored on the capability of the emerging generation, particularly in terms of knowledge, integrity, creativity and a strong sense of identity.
“You are the heirs to the achievements of previous generations.
"However, you also bear the responsibility to forge new, greater and more meaningful achievements,” he said.
He said this while delivering an address at the 30th UNIMAS Convocation Ceremony, held at Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra (DeTAR Putra), UNIMAS, on Monday.
According to Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi, the development of modern infrastructure, efforts to attract significant investment and the wealth of natural resources must be supported by human capital that is knowledgeable, possesses integrity, is innovative and possesses a strong sense of identity, ensuring that these advantages are utilised optimally and sustainably.
In this regard, he emphasised that higher education must remain a key pillar in the development of both the state and the nation.
He also expressed hope that UNIMAS would continue to develop into a university that not only excels in academics and research but is also respected for its intellectual contributions toward societal development, the empowerment of knowledge and the advancement of civilisation.
Addressing the graduates, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi stressed that the future is not something to merely wait for but instead must be built through effort, courage, discipline and wisdom.
“Do not be content with simply being the heirs to progress. Become the generation that creates progress, builds its own strength and leaves behind a better legacy for those who come after,” he said.
The first session was also graced by Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Also present were UNIMAS Board of Directors Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, members of the UNIMAS Executive Committee, Deputy Vice-Chancellors and other members of the University’s Board of Directors. -UKASnews
