Next Generation Of Civil Servants Urged To Be More Innovative, Proactive
KUCHING: The younger generation of Sarawak civil servants has been urged to become a driving force behind innovative ideas and solutions to enhance administrative efficiency and the quality of government service delivery.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said young civil servants must leverage fresh perspectives, digital expertise and more dynamic approaches to address increasingly complex administrative challenges.
"I want our next generation of civil servants to be problem-solvers who come forward with recommendations and solutions, not merely report problems," he said.
He said this when delivering his address at the Civil Service Day (HPA) celebration and SCSICA Awards 2026 here on Wednesday.
He stressed that problem-solving capabilities must be supported by the development of forward-looking, ethical and strategic leadership at every level of the civil service.
"In this regard, the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service has an important role to play in developing a pipeline of capable, ethical and strategic leaders.
"The allocation of RM25 million to the institute under the Sarawak Budget 2027 reflects our commitment to strengthening leadership and competencies across the Civil Service," he added.
He further emphasised that strengthening civil service competencies is increasingly important as Sarawak undergoes economic transformation, requiring technical expertise, critical thinking and the ability to understand complex issues. -UKASnews
