Sarawak Equips Civil Servants With Skills For Future Challenges
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government will continue to enhance human capital development within the Sarawak Civil Service through training, upskilling and leadership development programmes to equip civil servants with the capabilities needed to meet future demands.
Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the growing number of younger officers from Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z calls for continued investment in developing their skills, competencies and leadership potential.
"This includes sending our young officers to leading international institutions such as Harvard University, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy," he said.
He said this when speaking at the Civil Service Day (HPA) celebration and Sarawak Civil Service Innovation Convention Awards (SCSICA) 2026, graced by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Wednesday.
He added that the new Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service (LISCS) building, which is expected to be inaugurated by the Premier soon, will also play an important role in expanding access to the latest training opportunities to enhance civil service competencies.
He said the aim is to ensure officers at every level are equipped with the knowledge, skills and capabilities to meet future demands, in line with the theme ‘Future Ready Civil Service’.
"Thus, being future-ready is not just about innovation and new technology. It is about preparing our people with the right skills, mindset and leadership,” he explained.
