DBKU First Local Authority In Sarawak To Achieve Level 2 Smart City Rating
SELANGOR: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has become the first local authority in Sarawak to receive the Level 2 Smart City Rating Award 2026, marking an improvement from its Level 1 rating achieved in 2023.
The Commission in a Facebook post said the recognition was presented during the World Town Planning Day 2026 celebration and the launch of the Fifth National Physical Plan (RFN5) and Third National Urbanisation Policy (DPN3) which was graced by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Petaling Jaya Civic Hall on Wednesday.
DBKU Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman received the award from Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.
“The improved rating reflects DBKU's continued commitment to advancing smart city development through technology and innovation to enhance urban management efficiency and improve public service delivery.
“As the first local authority in Sarawak to achieve the rating, DBKU aims to further expand people-centric smart city initiatives, focusing on solutions that directly improve the wellbeing and quality of life of residents,” the Commission said.
The achievement is also expected to drive DBKU's efforts to develop Kuching into a sustainable, resilient and inclusive smart city, in line with Sarawak's development aspirations. -UKASnews
