KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak-born students currently studying at Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) and Private Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTS) are now eligible to apply for the Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS), introduced by the state through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Sarawak Premier and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, explained that SRAS was not introduced solely for working youths, but also to help ease the burden of students who are renting off-campus accommodation outside of IPTA/IPTS college residences.
“The Sarawak Government has also introduced SRAS to ease the burden of Sarawakian students who need to rent accommodation during their studies.
“This assistance provides RM200 per month for IPTA/IPTS students renting in major towns such as Kuching, Samarahan, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri,” he said.
He said this during his speech at the 29th UNIMAS Convocation Ceremony, Session 3, held here on Tuesday.
Session 3 of the ceremony saw a total of 575 postgraduate graduates receiving their awards, comprising 255 graduates from the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts and 320 graduates from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology.
Also present were Chairman of the UNIMAS Board of Directors, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit, members of the UNIMAS Board of Directors, as well as other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
