Local Runners & Fighters Unite For Charity In Sarawak Hope Run 2025
KUCHING: What began as a casual idea between running enthusiasts and Muay Thai fighters has evolved into a full-scale charity movement, the Sarawak Hope Run 2025, set to bring together sports lovers for a cause that uplifts children in need.
Representing the organising team, Albert Tan from Revolution Run (RevRun) said the event was inspired by a shared desire to close the year with something meaningful after months of active community runs.
“The idea came when Jojo and the Rentap Fighters joined one of our trail runs. We realised we could use that same energy to help others.
“This time, we’re not promoting a fight, but fighting for something even greater: to raise funds for children in need,” he said.
Co-organised by RevRun and Drills Running Club, with support from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Talent Development (MYSED) and Rentap Muay Thai Gym, the charity run will feature a 5-kilometre run and 1-mile walk.
With the venue of Padang Merdeka provided by Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan, the run will take place on 21 December 2025.
Proceeds will benefit four children-related charities, including Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah, PERKATA, the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia and the Kuching Autistic Association.
For Jennana Johnson, affectionately known as Jojo’s mom, the collaboration between runners and fighters is a heartfelt way to give back.
“This is for charity, and we want to give back to the community because the community has given us so much.
“Each of our fighters will be raising funds through their social media, all for the children. Every contribution counts,” she said.
Among the Rentap Fighters joining the run are Jojo, Kilatboy, Elias, Chicha, Mia, Miki, Kabilan, Boy Prata, and Hasbullah, who are rallying fans and supporters to donate towards the RM50,000 target.
Albert said the organising team hopes the event will remind Sarawakians that kindness and sports can move hand in hand.
“When passion meets purpose, even a simple run can make a big difference,” he said. -UKASnews
