Chinese New Year 2026 Unites Sarawakians, BCCK Filled With Festivity & Goodwill
KUCHING: A sea of people filled the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) early in the morning, bringing with them smiles, hope and new enthusiasm in conjunction with the Sarawak-level Chinese New Year Celebration 2026 which took place in an atmosphere full of festivity and goodwill on Tuesday.
The celebration attended by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi is not just an annual event, but a space for the people of various races to gather as one big Sarawak family.
The organisation of the state-level celebration reflects the Sarawak Government's ongoing commitment to preserving harmony between races and strengthening the spirit of unity which is the core of the state's strength.
The arrival of Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan was greeted by a line of dignitaries before the two spent time watching various cultural performances, including a mesmerising lion dance, energetic drumming and traditional performances reflecting the rich heritage of the Chinese community.
The event, which brought together the multi-racial community, was not only lively with the colorful colors of culture, but also full of the value of togetherness.
In an atmosphere full of goodwill, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan also mingled with the visitors, reaching out to the people regardless of their background.
Amidst the commotion, the voices of the people present also reflected a sense of pride and excitement.
According to visitor Joshua Amir Sibat, the atmosphere of this year's celebration clearly showed the growing spirit of unity among the people of Sarawak.
"As early as 9 am, the grounds were already filled with people. I hope that this kind of culture is maintained involving all generations and various races. This is the image of Sarawak that we are proud of," he said.
For Azizah Alwi, the Chinese New Year celebration is a field for reuniting old friends and family members in a harmonious atmosphere.
"I think this is the most lively. We get to see old friends and family. Chinese New Year is about us uniting and strengthening ties with friends of different races. Sarawak can be an example of unity for the whole of Malaysia," he said.
Another visitor, Abang Mukhriz, described the celebration as the best opportunity to better understand and appreciate the traditions of other races.
“This is an interesting tradition for the whole of Sarawak because we have many races. I hope this tradition will continue to be maintained for future generations,” he said.
On average, visitors expressed happiness and excitement at being able to celebrate the celebration together in an atmosphere of harmony and family spirit.
The celebration once again proved that in this blessed land, celebrations are not just celebrated by one race, but are shared together to become a symbol of the strength of unity and harmony of the people of Sarawak which is continued to be preserved as the foundation of the stability and progress of the state.-UKASnews
