Open House Culture Strengthens Unity Values, Reflects Sarawakian Identity
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government's Open House celebrations for major festivals houses continue to be an important platform in strengthening unity and instilling the values of nation-building among the people of the state.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian said the state-level Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Gawai Open Houses reflect the government's commitment to the principle of inclusiveness which is the core of Sarawak's strength.
“This is Sarawak, we can see the old and the young, the Chinese, the Iban and the Malays coming together. Many came in their traditional attire and this is the beauty of Sarawak.
“Open house means open to all without the need for an invitation because the community is truly welcome,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters during the Sarawak Chinese New Year Open House Celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday.
Present to enliven the ceremony were the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Datuk Amar Dr. Sim added that the culture is an important foundation for building Sarawak where the people are together regardless of their background to make this state a better place.
According to him, in a situation where many places in the world are facing division, Sarawak is an example of how communities can move forward together through harmony.
Commenting on the open house celebration, he expected about 5,000 visitors to attend based on the record previous year with the number potentially increasing due to good weather.
Also present during the open house were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof with his wife Datin Amar Ruziah Mohd Tahir, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah with his wife Datin Amar Doreen Mayang, Sarawak Cabinet Ministers, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki with his wife Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang, Deputy Ministers of the Sarawak Government and heads of departments.- UKASnews
