KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg has been appointed as the patron of the Pertubuhan Keturunan dan Waris Pengiran Sarawak (PKWPS).
PKWPS President Dr Awang Nib Zuhairi Awang Ahmad said his organisation was very honoured with the Sarawak Premier agreeing to take on the role.
"We are very pleased that the Sarawak Premier has agreed to become the patron of our organisation. This is exciting news to share," he said.
He said this to reporters after paying a courtesy call on the Sarawak Premier at the Kompleks Satria Pertiwi, here on Wednesday.
According to him, among the main objectives of establishing PKWPS is to preserve the lineage of Pengiran descendants in Sarawak through conducting research with stakeholders.
Dr Awang Nib Zuhairi said that the effort includes recording the history of the development of the Pengiran group in Sarawak in collaboration with several reputable institutions.
"This study will involve collaboration with several institutions such as the University of Brunei, the Brunei Historical Society, the Brunei Historical Centre as well as institutions in Sarawak to ensure that genealogical studies and the role of the Pengiran throughout the existence of Sarawak is well documented," he explained.
He added that the visit also served to introduce the new leadership of PKWPS for the January 2026 to December 2027 session. -UKASnews
