RM1.93 Million Grant Empowers Sarawak Youth & Sports, Early Preparations For 2027 SEA Games
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to strengthen youth and sports development by channeling grants totaling RM1.93 million to 43 associations and organisations as a catalyst for high-impact activities and preparations for the 2027 SEA Games.
Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah explained that this initiative reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to empowering the youth and sports ecosystem comprehensively.
According to him, the grant amounting to RM1,934,600 was distributed to 43 associations and organisations, involving five youth bodies and 38 sports organisations across Sarawak.
“This grant is not just financial assistance, but a symbol of the government's trust in our youth and sports community to remain active, progressive, and provide a positive impact on society,” he said.
He delivered this message during the 2026 Youth and Sports Grant Presentation Ceremony at the Waterfront Hotel Kuching on Wednesday.
The Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts added that this assistance is expected to serve as a catalyst for the involved associations to improve administrative quality and implement more inclusive and competitive programmes.
He informed that Sarawak is currently actively preparing to host several events in conjunction with the 2027 SEA Games.
To note, a total of 17 sports events will be held in the state, with various efforts to upgrade sports facilities currently underway to ensure optimum readiness.
A total of 11 development projects with an estimated cost of RM277 million are being implemented in Kuching.
This includes the upgrading of the Sarawak Stadium, which will serve as the venue for the opening ceremony of the prestigious games. — UKASnews
